Yining Lyu is a Melbourne-based artist working across paper-cutting, installation, and collage. Drawing on Chinese folk art, her work explores how traditional decorative forms convey gender discrimination and societal expectations. Through laser-cut paper-cut figures, spatial layout, and lighting, she explores the narrative nature of shadow puppetry. Using light and shadow as a critical language, she connects traditional craft with contemporary feminist discourse.
Yining is currently pursuing a graduate degree at RMIT University, focusing on research-driven installation art practice. She is dedicated to transforming traditional art forms into expressions accessible to diverse audiences. Through clear narrative artistry, she strives to convey ideas in a manner that remains comprehensible beyond professional contexts while preserving the cultural complexity of blessings inherent in folk art forms.
